Cut Your Wedding Cake Budget

Wedding Cake
The cost of your wedding cake can really add up. However, you don’t need to spring for the most expensive, elaborate cake available. There are some easy ways you can reduce your cake budget.
Use a fake cake!
Believe it or not, lots of couples utilize fake (Styrofoam) wedding cakes these days. All the tiers are fake, but the top one! The cake is decorated beautifully and looks like the real thing but at a fraction of the cost. Plated sheet cake (very cheap) is served from the kitchen to the guests, and only the real top tier is reserved for the cake cutting ceremony or the stored by the bride and groom for their anniversary.
Skip the fillings!
Instead of jellies, custards and other expensive fillings, go with a plain cake or real fruit filling. Pick fruit that is in season and local – that way it will be less expensive.
Don’t Serve Cake at All!
Gasp! As sacrilegious as it sounds, it’s okay not to have a wedding cake. Most guests only eat a bite or two anyway. Consider having a nice dessert table instead. Your guests will eat more and it will generally cost you less.
