Wedding Planning: Emergency Preparedness
There is plenty of information out there listing the items you will need for your Wedding Planning Emergency Kit. Items like band-aids, baby wipes, cotton swabs, and more are all necessary emergency items. However, there are other emergencies that a kit may not be able to handle. Here are three common emergencies that, if you are planning your wedding well, you will handle with ease:
The Stained Dress
As careful as you may be with your dress, there are times when staining is inevitable. So, what can you do to remove or handle the stain. First, you should know that some stains just need to be left alone. Sometimes attempts to remove a stain can make it worse. Second, you should have some important stain removers in your Wedding Planning Emergency Kit. Third, always test those removers on a small part of the dress to be sure they won’t make a bad situation worse.
So what are a few common stains? Red wine is one. It can usually be removed from a wedding dress with some club soda. Ink comes out fairly easily with hairspray, and lipstick can be covered with baking soda or talcum powder. Having these items on your wedding planning checklist can go a long way to keeping you beautiful on your special day.
The Honeymoon Tickets in the Wrong Name
Sometimes brides and grooms put the tickets in the bride’s maiden name, forgetting that she will have a new last name after the wedding. Other times the bride will not have a new drivers’ license or passport reflecting her new name, and the name on the ticket will have the married name on it. In most cases the airlines will let you travel with your old drivers’ license and a copy of your marriage license. Other times you may need to put a rush on a new passport. Still, it may take some sweet talking to managers or the Transportation Safety Administration to get on the plane. On other occasions you may end up having to purchase new tickets.
The Vendor No-Show
One of the most devastating emergencies a bride and groom can face is the vendor no-show. All the wedding planning in the world may not save the couple from having a caterer, florist, photographer, or DJ not show up. Instead of panicking, have a back up plan. If the florist does not show up, send a friend to the local grocer to pick up bouquets. If the DJ doesn’t show up, put some CDs in a portable stereo. If the photographer is a no-show, grab some disposable cameras from a drug store and have the guests take tons of pictures. If the caterer does not provide food as planned, some fast food can look good if it is placed in fancy dishes. If you have a “Plan B” listed in your wedding plans you will know exactly what to do if something does not go as planned, making your day run much more smoothly.
