Record Breaking Antiqua
Island weddings are becoming more popular these days. In fact, Antigua has found a place in the "2006 Guinness World Record Book" for the highest marriage rate in the world. Antigua has also been named the best wedding island. According to the book, there are 22.1 marriages for every 1,000 people. The statistics are from 1998 and include both residents and visitors to the Caribbean. According to the Ministry of Legal Affairs, two out of three marriage applications come from tourists.
Not only was Antigua included in the record book, but it was also awarded the Best Wedding Island Award for the second year in a row at the Caribbean World Magazine Travel Awards ceremony. Due to the popularity and reputation of the island, the Ministry of Tourism is now offering a Wedding and Honeymoon Certification Familiarisation Trip for leading travel agents and tourism operators from the U.K.
While Antigua is the most popular place for weddings, more and more people are turning to the islands for wedding ceremonies as well as receptions. The idea of getting married on the beach with the sun and surf as a backdrop is appealing to a lot of couples. However, island weddings come with a different method of planning.
In order to have the best island wedding possible, it is important to work both with a wedding travel agent and experienced wedding planner. Most experienced travel agents work with wedding planners at resorts on the islands to give you the wedding of your dreams.
Some brides and grooms choose to get married on the island in a small ceremony and then return to have a reception after the honeymoon. Sometimes this option is easier and can cost less if the couple wants to share their wedding with a larger group of people. However, if the couple wants to keep guests limited to a few family members and friends, they can opt to do everything on the island.
There are many options for brides and grooms seeking to have a wedding on an island like Antigua. Speak to a travel agent that specializes in the exotic wedding destinations to determine which plans fit your needs and your budget.
